Case di vacanza in the heart of Toscana and Umbria.
Cozy and historic apartments for weekly vacation rental in the beautiful Tuscan hilltown of Anghiari.

Anghiari—Your perfect Home Base

Anghiari is located in the beautiful valley of the Tiber (Tevere) River, and just a few minutes from the border dividing Tuscany and Umbria, allowing you quick and easy access to the wonders of both provinces for art, architecture, fine dining, shopping, winetasting, and relaxing. We suggest using one of our apartments in Anghiari as your "home base" for a week or more in central Italy, sampling our local treasures or planning short excursions throughout the area. Longer visits to Roma, Venezia, Cinque Terra, Milano, the Lakes (Say hello to George Clooney!) or other outlying areas are easily accomplished by train or car. And you don't have to continually repack your suitcases and personal goods, as you would in a series of hotels.

Location

Our historic and unspoiled village was recently named one of the most beautiful towns in Italy (i borghi piu bella d'Italia) by ANCI, the National Association of Italian Municipalities; it participates in the cittaslow movement, and has been awarded the "Bandiera Arancione" by the Italian Touring Club for excellence in hospitality and tourism. During the summer of 2007, Anghiari was chosen as the site for the filming of "Una Moglie Bellisima," directed by the renowned Fiorentino actor/director Leonardo Pieraccioni. During the Renaissance, the name of Anghiari was made famous as the subject of Leonardo Da Vinci's (commissioned, but now lost) mural for the governors of Firenze entitled "The Battle of Anghiari."

With major highways, Arezzo's train hub, and the autostrada just minutes away, Anghiari is the perfect access point for day trips to many of Italy's most sought-after tourist destinations: Siena, Assisi, Cortona, Caprese di Michelangelo, La Verna (the working Monastery of San Francesco), Gubbio, Firenze, San Gimignano, Pisa, Sansepolcro (birthplace of Piero della Francesca), Arezzo (important Roman crossroads and famous for its monthly antique market), and many others less known but equally spectacular to explore.

Just over an hours drive are the famous wine producers of Chianti, Montepulciano and Montalcino and local Tuscan/Umbrian food products (cheese, honey, pasta, wines and sweets) are available throughout the year. Shopping with our area vendors for wine, cheeses, and oil can be booked directly with the artisans.

Beaches can be reached on the east or west sides of Tuscany with one or two hours driving time. There are excellent beach/swimming areas near Pisa, or the coastal area of Cinque Terre, and ocean night-fishing can be booked near Rimini. Public swimming pools are located within five minutes of Anghiari in Sansepolcro and Fighille.

Nearest airports: Firenze (one and a half hours), Roma (two-three hours), Bologna (two hours), Perugia (one hour). >> DRIVING DIRECTIONS A car is highly recommended for local sightseeing, but not absolutely necessary. Our nearest train station is Arezzo (25 minutes), and a shuttle train runs from Sansepolcro (five minutes) to Perugia (one hour +) throughout the day. Bus service, taxi service and rental cars (Avis, Hertz) are available in Arezzo.

Driving times: Sansepolcro (birthplace of Piero della Francesca), five minutes. Arezzo (famous monthly antique market, first Sunday and preceeding Saturday), 25 minutes. Firenze, 60-90 minutes. Caprese di Michelangelo (birthplace of Michelangelo), 15 minutes. La Verna (St. Francis monastery), 40 minutes. Wine areas, 60-75 minutes.
